Abstract
Background: Emergency doctors are challenged daily by a wide variety of different emergency situations requiring rapid and correct decision-making. Human patient simulators provide a means of training without bearing risks for patients. The aim was to establish a simulator-based training for prospective emergency doctors. Methods: During a 1.5 day training program, actors, video beamer, loudspeakers, original equipment and 2 paramedics were used tobuild a realistic simulation environment. Each scenario was videotaped and in the final phase a debriefing was carried by an experienced emergency doctor. A standardized questionnaire was used to evaluate the training. Results: Overall rating, rating of realism and relevance were very good. Quality of live TV coverage was rated as being in need of improvement. Conclusion: Human patient simulators provide practical training facilities for prospective emergency doctors.
