Abstract
Service and full-scale component test may be impractical but they are unavoidable in order to generate relevant data for prediction purposes. A few years ago the current welded aluminium beam fatigue program was conceived as a contribution in an affort to reduce the discrepancy between theory and practice and support activities to draft more reliable design recommendations. The beam program described in the following is a relevant part of the whole. This will be flanked by the programs on residual stress effects crack initiation computations and a later comprehensive evaluation of weld imperfection effects on fatigue behavior.
