Abstract
Using the recreation forest, a nature park, a national park, and the mountains as an example, it was tried to answer the question if we not might have gone too far in what we have done to our landscape for the sake of outdoor recreation. In this connection the most important impacts on nature by various recreational, activities have been pointed out, and it was tried to formulate consequences for future outdoor recreation planning. Many aspects of outdoor recreation could not be discussed, such as problems around lakes, ponds, and streams; the increase of horse-back riding in the open countryside; or conflicts created by newly appearing recreational activities and techniques ranging from hang-gliding to ice-sailing. In spite of the necessary restriction to a few important aspects of outdoor recreation, some tendencies in the development have become obivious. These are tendencies which, before a background of steadily increasing grips und pressure on the environment, should stimulate thinking about the limits of opening up and using the open countryside for recreation and tourism.
