Abstract

Summary Objective Development and evaluation of a psychoeducational group program addressing return to work issues for psychiatric inpatients. Material and methods Focus group with five inpatients and subsequent development of a five session program. Implementation and evaluation of this program. Results The focus group revealed important issues during the process of returning to work. Building up on these results a five session psychoeducational group program was established addressing the issues of how to deal with colleagues, how to talk to your supervisor and further help to successfully return to work. Patients highly approved the program and rated it as helpful. Conclusion Our pilot study suggests that a program addressing patients who will return to work may fill an important gap. Further research is needed to confirm our results and to refine the intervention. Clinical relevance The return-To-work-process is an important subject for many inpatients and therefore should be addressed explicitly during treatment.
