Abstract
The investigation of subjects with a schizotypal personality is considered as a useful adjunct to the investigation of schizophrenic patients. However, there is currently no German questionnaire for the assessment of all 9 symptom features of the schizotypal personality according to DSM-III-R and DSM-IV diagnostic criteria. In order to close this gap, the DSM-III-R validated Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ) by Raine (1991) was translated into German and administered to 683 university students. Results indicate that the good psychometric properties of the original version of the SPQ are preserved in its German translation, the SPQ-G, with sufficient internal consistencies and good retest reliabilities of both the total SPQ-G score and the subscale scores. An approximately orthogonal 2-factorial structure was found that confirmed the dimensional results of Raine et al. (1992). A three-factorial structure, related to the confirmatory model of Raine et al. (1994), was found only after disregarding conventional extraction criteria and with some divergencies in the composition of marker subscales. Male and female subjects exhibited differences in subscale profiles, confirming results of Raine (1992). The Neuroticism scale of the EPQ-KR was positively correlated with the SPQ-G total score (r=.56) and with all of its subscales. Extraversion was negatively correlated with the three subscales of negative schizotypy; Eysenck's revised "Psychoticism" scale was not related to the SPQ-G and its subscales. Subjects with high scores on the SPQ-G exhibited deviancies from low-scoring subjects in psychophysiological (P300, PINV) and neuromotor (diadochokinesia) variables that distinguish schizophrenic patients form healthy subjects as well.
