Abstract
For railway bridges with slab track, the vertical rail support forces on bridging joints must be designed according to attachment 29 of the DS 804 guideline (published in 2000). The specifications according to this current design standard have been derived on the basis of a linear force-deformation behavior. Due to the nonlinear stiffness behavior of newly developed high-performance supports for slab track systems, these design provisions need to be updated and questioned critically. This paper describes the overall background as well as the derivation of special j-d-diagrams, which result both from linear and nonlinear boundary value analyses. These diagrams may be utilized to assess the current design concept. In addition, the depicted limit curves enable a simplified determination of admissible rotations and displacements at structural joints.
