Abstract

A new generation of stability running shoes has been developed to prevent overuse injuries in running caused by overpronation (e.g. Achilles tendon complaints), based on 7 years of research. This new development should help reduce overpronation (and subsequent complaints) more effectively than the conventional dual-density technology, which only allows marginal control of overpronation. An additional goal of this project was to prevent overuse injuries (Achilles tendon). To attain these goals, clinical studies were carried out resulting in a new running shoe (Nike Air Cesium) which acts to not only prevent, but also to reduce Achilles tendon complaints.
