Abstract

To ensure the energy supply at reasonable costs and with minimization of the environmental impact is one of the essential challenges of the 21st century. Because of the rising energy costs, the manufacturing companies with their high energy demand come under increasing pressure. To stay competitive, a cost-optimized production is necessary, especially in high-wage states like Germany. Furthermore, the political and social pressure is still increasing to improve the energy efficiency and to support the paradigm change in the German energy supply. To be able to optimize the energy consumption, there must be clarity about the initial situation. Therefore, the article deals with the energy transparency. The aim is to visualize energy consumption in order to achieve a profound understanding of the energy use in enterprises.
