Abstract
Background: In contrast to elbow fracture dislocations, the therapeutic management of simple elbow dislocations has not yet been adequately clarified with uniform guidelines.
Aim: The aim of this review is to provide an answer to whether surgical or conservative therapy is the optimal solution for the various types of simple elbow dislocation.
Diagnostics and therapy: This article presents a structured diagnostic approach to identify instability after elbow dislocation followed by an algorithm for therapeutic decision-making. Both non-operative treatment and surgical repair of simple elbow dislocations are presented in detail.
