Abstract

The utilization of three phase bridge inverters in the drive of switched reluctance machines has not been vastly investigated [1][5], even though it presents advantages in terms of physical mounting and capability of the devices when applied to the drive of switched reluctance machines as compared to the asymmetric half bridge [1], which is the most used in these drives. The broad existence of topologies to drive these machines is a relevant factor to the minor interest in this structure, which was initially developed for ac drives. Another important factor is the prolonged turn off time of the machine phases that is due to the operation of the inverter [1]. This work proposes a modification in the current control strategy and in the connection structure of the windings of the machine. The experimental results obtained with these modifications show that it is possible to eliminate the prolonged turn off time without an increase in the complexity of the operation or in the structure of the system.
