Abstract
Triatomic CuCl2 is trapped in solid neon (argon) at 6 K (11 K) and investigated by optical spectroscopy using a Fourier transform spectrometer. With the help of optical absorption and laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy, several electronic transitions are observed and analysed, and the results are compared with theoretically predicted properties. Satisfactory agreement is found between experiment and recent state of the art ab initio theory. In the few cases where gas phase constants are available, they also are in excellent agreement with the neon matrix results.
