Abstract

The nature of the condensed states of phospholipid monolayers is studied by transmission electron microscopy. The layers were transferred from air/water interface to carbon films, to crystalline layers of graphite oxide and to Formvar foils covered with SiO//2. Platinum shadowing at 15 degree angle of incidence layer thickness could be determined to an accuracy of about 10% allowing to distinguish between monolayers and multilayers unambiguously.
