Abstract
To investigate the influence of simultaneously occurring nonlinear elastic, plastic and creep strains on the buckling of circular cylindrical shells under axial compression, a time-dependent material description was introduced into the computer program ROT-B for the nonlinear, elastic-plastic analysis of nonsymmetrically loaded shells of revolution. The constitutive relation chosen is based on the usual assumption that the total strain rate consists of the sum of elastic, plastic and creep components. The formulation and solution procedure described briefly has then been applied to the calculation of the critical buckling times of clamped circular cylindrical shells under axial compression.
