Abstract
Experimental data show that deoxidation of copper melts with CaB//6 is as effective as deoxidation with phosphorus or lithium; without having the same unifavorable effect on electric conductivity. None of the three deoxidizers has an adverse effect on processing properties. Analysis of CaB//6-deoxidized copper shows that calcium is removed with the slag whereas boron remains in the copper in solid solution.
