Abstract

27 rabbits underwent infusion of epinephrine, norepinephrine and secretin. Gastrin concentration patterns were determined in serum before, during and after the infusion. There were no significant increases during epinephrine and norepinephrine infusion. During secretin and a combined secretin-epinephrine infusion there was a significant rise in serum gastrin concentration. The gastrin secretion pattern in rabbits influenced by catecholamines and secretin is in complete contrast to human conditions. That means that rabbits can only be used with a certain reserve in gastroenterological experiments.
