Abstract
Within the framework of the DFG SPP 1551 "Machine elements for resource efficiency", the influence of running-in and tribofilms on the load carrying capacity and the friction behavior of spur gears was investigated systematically. A recommendation for the running-in of spur gears was derived, which contributes to resource efficient operation of transmissions without design effort. Investigations on the twin-disk and gear test rig show a superordinate influence of tribofilms over surface roughness changes on the friction and damage behavior of gears. Surface analyses of chemical, structural and mechanical properties of tribofilms, which are mainly determined by interactions of lubricant and surface, provide explanatory approaches for friction behavior and load carrying capacity.
