Abstract
The goal of this study was to develop a comprehensive method for simulating the management of legally established conservation areas under changing climatic conditions. For this purpose the content of environmental legislation governing particular categories of conservation area relevant to forest land use was analysed. As well as an assessment of the intensity of regulation in the various conservation area categories, the actual relevance of these conservation area categories for forest land use was estimated by establishing the size of their areas. Based on these results, a method for simulating the management of conservation areas was designed. For this it was necessary to operationalize the conservation area regulations by ecogrammes and to evaluate their applicability in automated simulation runs.
