Abstract

The model is based on the two dimensional method of characteristics, which integrates ordinary differential equations, unlike the quasi characteristic methods, over the entire surface of the characteristic cone. A semi-analytical solution of the depth averaged shallow water equations, including all non-linear terms was developed. Comparison was made with existing two dimensional models and applications of the model are illustrated for simulation of flood waves on the Iller River and the Wornitz River with respect to the towns of Kempten and Harburg in the Federal Republic of Germany.
