Abstract

This work presents a method to measure the losses of an Auxiliary Resonant Commutated Pole (ARCP) inverter in periodic operation. Conduction losses and the switching loss contributions are identified for different semiconductor technologies. The results show that SiC-MOSFETs are especially suited for the ARCP topology, since the majority of switching losses are eliminated. When using IGBTs, the turn-on losses are reduced significantly, but the turn-off losses only decrease little. Using this method, different ARCP control algorithms can be verified and compared.
