Abstract

A project to develop a quick and low-cost method to assess the data for sustained landuse planning is discussed. To reach the objective, existing data were extracted from available small-scale maps and then condensed and combined using the Arc/Info software package. Actual and complementing data have been retrieved from Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) data collected in Ethiopia. The overlap of the data derived from maps with the classified image data was used as the basis for an improved landuse plan. The indicators and their derivation are explained, and the techniques used are discussed.
