Abstract

Magnetic control of soot production in partially premixed reacting flows was studied. Fields of both soot temperature and volume fraction were used to assess the influence of an upward magnetic gradient on the soot production inside laminar partially pre- mixed ethylene/oxygen flames. A reversal of the magnetic effect was revealed. For non- premixed flames increasing the upward magnetic gradient increased soot production. For some partially premixed flames the magnetic gradient could induce an overall reduction in soot production.
