Abstract
Anaphylaxis is common in adult patients with mastocytosis. Triggers of anaphylaxis in patients with mastocytosis are predominantly hymenoptera venoms and idiopathic. There is the concern that drug anaphylaxis might also be associated with mastocytosis. However, the prevalence of immediate hypersensitivity reactions in adults appears not to be highly elevated when compared to the general population. Patients with mastocytosis may react to the same drugs as those without SM, e.g., beta-lactam antibiotics, analgetics and contrast media.
