Abstract
In recent years, the topic of driver behavior and assistance has attracted more attention in traffic engineering andergonomic research. An elaborate and understandable review of driver behavior and assistance is given in this paper. It discusses the driver behavior and assistance from the perspectives of safety and accident statistics, driving task, safety and fun, research of driver's behavior, occurrence of accidents and technical development of assistance systems. The final part of the paper illustrates some ergonomic solution proposals of the driver assistance, by which the demand on driver assistances systems that consider human behavior could be solved.
