Abstract
In the light of globalisation and regionalisation as a consequence the importance of the local level grows considerably in the future. Cities and rural communities together with their villages and inhabitants have to prepare strategically for this development. Against the background of an upcoming civil society the political fields and measures which rely on intensive participation and active commitment of citizens become meaningful. In this context village renewal becomes a specific (success)model for a necessary and future-proofing division of work between the state, communities and citizens.
