Abstract

A research project sponsored by Arbeitsgemeinschaft industrieller Forschung (AiF) consortium of industrial research has developed a design and dimensioning method for vertical conveyor screws. The team found that the variation of the filling level and the number of revolutions have an influence on the specific capacity of the screw conveyor. The pipe friction power and the spiral friction power are arranged in form of a total friction power as a reference value for the conveying coefficient. The mass flow represents an important parameter towards identifying a screw conveyor's power and is determined by measurement technique. The discrepancy between power calculation and power measurement lies between 4% and 15% in the relevant operating ranges of the respective conveyor plant.
