Abstract
PMR spectra of the four triethylhalosilanes (C2H5)3SiX (X F, Cl, Br, I) and of triethylsilane (X H) were recorded and assigned. In the cases of X Cl, Br the spectra are characterized by collapsed A3B2-multiplets, due to small differences in magnetic shielding of methyl and methylene protons. For X H, F these multiplets are extended to (A3B2)3X systems by spin-spin interactions of these nuclei with the methylene protons. Triethyliodosilane shows only a singulet signal for all ethyl hydrogen atoms. The results, being confirmed by theoretically computed spectra, are subjected to a short comparative discussion.
