Abstract
Techniques were developped in the miniature pig for chronic implantation of silicon rubber catheters into the portal vein, the inferior vena cava, the right atrium and for the production of a transesophagal gastric fistula. Through these catheters blood samples can be drawn from and infusions into the vessels can be performed easily without any pain or stress for the animals. Infusions into the stomach can be done through an implanted rubber tube. Angiography of the portal vein through an implanted catheter shows one possible application of these methods.
