Abstract

By the Single European Act of 1986, autonomous jurisdiction of the European Community for the field of environmental protection was initiated. Relying on this legal basis, the EC has developed a series of activities in the area of environmental law, which after its conversion into national regulations will be of importance for our national forestry, too. With the example of the EC legislation on nature and water protection, as well as waste disposal, it is shown which impacts on forestry may be expected and how they could be compensated by financial measures. Further actions, undertaken by the European Community in the field of environmental legislation, which apply to forestry as well, can be anticipated in the near future.
