Adiposity is the most frequent metabolic disorder in our population. The consequences are impairment of health and life expectancy; exceptions only prove the rule. The pathogenesis of adiposity includes new biochemical dispositions which however, are not yet of any consequence for therapy. Motivation of the patient, the therapist, and finally diet are essential for treatment. A normal mixed diet with reduced energy content according to the physiology of nutrition is the most rational procedure for carrying out a weight recuding care. The nutritive relation, frequency of meals and psychological guidance are helpful supporting measures. Pharmacological treatment must be rejected because of the lack of casually effective substances and the possible risks.
