Abstract

Investigation of PCDD/F-formation in recyclates of PVC-recycling and in PVC show that the German legislative limits are not exceeded. The highest concentration of all PCDD/F-congeners in one sample was found at 23.9 m g kg-1. Mean ratios between PCDD and PCDF were larger than 10. The PCDD concentrations increased thousand-fold between tetra- to octachlorinated isomers. Small-scale simulated accidental fire-experiments of wet recyclates exhibit higher concentrations in flue gas than burning of a PVC-solution and at real fire events concentrations in the pg-range can occur. The PCDD/F-concentrations of the residues were low. Investigations of recyclates of electronic devices showed a challenge for PBDD/F-minimization for different recycling methods.
