Abstract

This method is more advantageous in the diagnosis of chest diseases: peripheral portions of the lung are better identified, diagnosis of pleural diseases is more accurate and mediastinal tumours can be better localized; the same applies to changes in the thoracic aorta. Cysts, abscesses, primary or secondary tumours of the liver and effects of biliary obstructions are better identified. Various pancreatic diseases may be more easily diagnosed if appropriate structures near the pancreas are marked by a contrast medium for computed tomography. Cysts and tumours of the kidneys can be identified even more easily with the additional help of a contrast medium. The diagnosis of retroperitoneal tumours is improved through computed tomography.
