Abstract

In the present study the clinical criteria used in the diagnosis of the little known hand-foot-mouth disease are outlined. Primary efflorescence is a seropapule and its multiple distribution usually corresponds to the localisation which determines the name. The methods involved in proving the presence of Coxsackie A viruses are described together with the serological differentiation of the Coxsackie A strain. In all the cases investigated Coxsackie A16 was isolated from faeces.
