Abstract

Stabilized platforms are used to control the line of sight (LOS) vector of a wide range of payloads such as cameras, telescopes, antennas or weapon systems. They are part of our everyday life as electromechanical stabilizers for our smartphone cameras and one of the central subsystems of civil or military unmanned aerial systems (UAS). As part of an UAS the stabilized platform is used to sweep the LOS vector of a sensor payload over an area of interest (AOI) to find, fix and track a point of interest (POI) and is therefore a critical part of the dynamic targeting process. The aim of this project is to develop a stabilized platform as part of a technology demonstrator for the dynamic targeting process based on specific requirements which are defined by the overall system design.
