Abstract

This contribution presents a novel process for the large-scale production of OME fuels. While state-of-the-art processes use expensive intermediates for producing OME, the novel OME process uses the readily available reactants formaldehyde and methanol. Process-relevant physico-chemical properties (chemical equilibria, reaction kinetics, liquid-liquid equilibria) are determined experimentally and thermodynamic models are developed. The models are used to develop the novel OME process. Critical process units are tested on a lab-scale.
