Abstract
Background: Performance, psychometric testing and analysis of the German instrument for the assessment of quality of life in skin diseases (DIELH). Methods: The instrument consisting of 36 questions (maximum score 144, 7 domains) was used in 842 outpatients. Quality assessments (validity, reliability, responsiveness) and analysis of the diagnostic groups and domains were performed. Results: The total score had a mean of 31 and significant differences between the diagnostic groups were observed. The highest scores were reported by patients with eczema, psoriasis, urticaria, and acne, whereas patients with nevi and tumours were hardly affected. Conclusions: A valid and reliable German instrument for the assessment of quality of life in skin diseases was developed. The analysis confirms a high discriminant validity of the instrument which allows a differentiated assessment of diagnostic groups and domains.
