Abstract

A method for the detection of genetically modified insect-resistant maize, expressing a synthetic gene encoding a truncated version of the CryIA(b) protein derived from Bacillus thuringiensis is described. The procedure includes: (1) extraction of genomic DNA, (2) amplification of the inserted synthetic gene by means of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method, and (3) characterization and confirmation of the PCR product by Southern hybridization with a digoxigenin-labelled oligonucleotide probe and DNA sequencing.
