Abstract

The study was conducted to find out differences in the gross efficiency and the comfort rates between three different seat positions during cycling. The results should support the engineering design process of human powered vehicles. Two extreme ones, the road bike and the lying position, as well as the normal upright cycling position were chosen to get an idea of the optimum concerning the influencing parameters. For the gross-efficiency, oxygen consumption and power display was displayed. The comfort rates were evaluated with a questionnaire.
