Abstract
The design features and implementation of a parallel three-degree-of- freedom camera motion device are discussed. The pivotable camera is kept parallel to the gaze direction of the user to synchronize the vision of the user with that of the camera. The camera is controlled by the eyes of the user, which are installed through the vestibule-ocular reflex (VOR). The camera is mounted to a camera carrier, which is connected to a steering plate with an additional degree of freedom. Such an arrangement allows the camera to be rotated around its optical axis that points into actual gaze direction. This rotation is called by the inner Cardan joint, which rotates the camera around its optical axis.
