Abstract
The author discusses the motives leading to and objectively responsible for the success of a holiday trip. There are marked differences in respect of the motives operative in the group of juveniles on the one hand and of adults on the other. The individual motives may obviously vary considerably. The author draws our attention to the literature on the subject. On the basis of the fundamental motives and of the motivation certain conclusions as to the type of journey may be drawn. Persons in charge of such holiday trips should make themselves conversant with the relevant basic facts.-Apart from the motives associated with the special personality, the changes brought about by the journey have their repercussions on the person as such. The basic total situation of our age leads to hyperactivity and aims towards constant stimulation by external experience. The target of a journey should be to lead the traveller away from his assumed Ego towards his real Ego and to enable him to find his own self for a certain period of time and to reach a state of peace and relaxation.
