Abstract
Merkel cell carcinoma is a malignant tumour with an aggressive growth pattern that readily metastasizes and is associated with a high rate of recurrent disease. The reported three-year survival rate is about 55%. The treatment of choice is microscopy-aided local excision with a wide margin of clearance. We now report the case of an inoperable patient in whom radiotherapy alone proved successful. Additional therapeutic possibilities are discussed on the basis of the most recent publications.
