Abstract

This contribution introduces a design process model that is applicable for multidisdplinary design tasks, the FORFLOW Process Model. The process model was developed by researchers collaborating in the research alliance FORFLOW (Bayerischer Forschungsverbund für Prozess- und Workflowunterstützung zur Planung und Steuerung der Abläufe in der Produktentwicklung), which is funded by the Bayerische Forschungsstiftung. The research alliance FORFLOW consists of six institutes working on the fields of product development and computer science. These institutes are located in the universities of Bamberg, Bayreuth, Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Technische Universität München. The FORFLOW Process Model is a versatile scheme of the product development process that supports managing multidisdplinary product design concerning a variety of different aspects. These aspects include the integration of mechatronic product design, situation spedfic process planning, regarding design iterations and lessons learned, the support of different DfX-aspects (e.g. cost, manufacturability...), integration of CAx-toob, product validation on different levels of detail as well as the provision for simultaneous and concurrent engineering.
