Abstract
The new Audi A6 running gear continues Audi's traditional development activity in the advanced wheel location area. By integrating tried and tested running-gear systems with modification to suit the specific vehicle, it was possible to arrive at a solution worthy of this car's market status. The Audi A4's well-proven four-link front suspension was adapted so suit the new car's dimensions; torsion beam rear suspension (for front-wheel drive cars) and the double wishbone rear suspension for quattro drive were developed further in accordance with previous successful principles with regard to functional efficiency and weight reduction. The new ESP dynamic vehicle stability program system has been added to the existing integrated traction control system. The targets of an optimised space package, lightweight design and more dynamic handling were all successfully achieved.
