Abstract
A survey is given about the historical development of the role of systems theory in visual research. Recent experimental results characterizing the spatial and temporal properties of the visual channel are summarized. On the basis of a model of visual threshold perception, threshold contrasts for various spatial-temporal patterns are calculated and compared with experimental results. Aspects of suprathreshold perception are considered.
