Abstract
The operating behaviour of compressor blades coated with aluminium or with aluminium surfaces layers for cathodic corrosion protection is studied in the new and precorroded state by an erosion test method with a solid body fluidized bed. This takes into account the considerable decrease in the corrosion protection due to particles in the intake air damaging the blade surface coating and layers. The dependence of the erosion on the particle incidence angle and velocity and composition shows two different damage mechanisms, at low incidence and 90DEGREES angles. Preliminary test data for steel X20 Cr13 blades with and without an inorganically combined aluminium coating, confirm the adequacy of the test method. The final results of the erosion studies of various aluminium coatings and layers will be reported later.
