Abstract

The fourth industrial revolution is shaping the development of companies in the automation domain, encompassing several trends such as Cyber-Physical Systems and the Internet of Things. Even though promising new technologies have arisen in the last years, there are still many challenges to overcome, particularly that of generalized acceptance. In this paper, the latest trends related to requirements and adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies are summarized, as well as the associated issues to be solved. Interesting results from a survey that was given to several industrial partners are presented, which illustrate the current adoption status at the software level, and the extent to which the corresponding challenges are being addressed.
