Abstract

The coronavirus was initially considered “the great leveler”. However, as the pandemic progresses, it is becoming apparent that not everyone is affected by the virus in the same way. Social inequalities are evident in the risk of infection, the severity of the disease, mortality rates, and in the consequences of the measures taken to prevent further spreading of the pandemic. Socio-economic factors as well as age and gender have proven to be relevant.
