Abstract

Level density parameters for 310 nuclei between 19F and 251Cf have been determined for the Back Shifted Fermi Gas and the Constant Temperature models, by fitting both low energy discrete levels and the s-wave neutron resoance spacings. The determined parameters have been found well correlated with quantites available from the mass tables, and simple formulas are proposed on this basis, which can be used to extrapolate to nuclei far from stability.
