Abstract

Instead of η6 coordination to the outer side of cyclophanes, η2 or η23 coordination has been found for the complexes 1 and 2 of the coingage metals Cu1 and Ag1, respectively. In their crystal structures, each metal center bridges two cyclophane molecules. However, on account of the differing coordination of the counterion, screwlike chains are formed for 1, whereas layers are formed for 2. Upon exposure to air, compound 1 discolors and becomes electrically conducting. (Formula Presented.)
