Abstract

A hybrid digital/analogue computer is employed for simulations of a class of stationary axisymmetric solutions to Einstein's equations for perfect fluids. The mass density and the pressure were allowed to be non-zero only in a finite region of spacetime. Also exterior solutions were considered. Many metrics are regular at the z axis. By varying the initial conditions, no asymptotically flat spacetimes could be obtained. This should be compared with the known result that no everywhere regular, stationary, axisymmetric dust solution admits an asymptotically flat metric.
