Abstract

The use of thermal and structural analysis to study the thermal properties, effect of climatic conditions, and placement schedule for roller compacted concrete (RCC) dams, is discussed. The two and three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) with linear and non-linear stress-strain analysis are considered for analysis. The computer program ANSYS is used to simulate the construction process of an RCC dam. The actual temperature distribution in the body of dam is also measured by thermocouples and is compared with results obtained by ANSYS.
